69 Orgs Grace Salakniban
Sixty nine student groups of the University of the Philippines Baguio (UP Baguio) were recognized during the annual assembly of student groups dubbed as “Salakniban” at the Bulwagang Juan Luna on July 22.

Salakniban, now recognized as a regular campus activity, serves as an opportunity for the different organizations to recruit more members and to better acquaint students to their role in the university, said Student Council Chairperson Jose Carpio III.

Salakniban 2010, which was established in 2006 to cultivate a sense of solidarity among student groups, welcomed six new organizations namely the UP Martial Arts Club (UPMAC), Lifebox (formerly Every Nation Campus Ministries), RedCross Youth, Rotaract Club, UP Baguio Cheer Squad, and Artists and Musicians Platform (AMP).

Student Relations Officer Atty. Nimreh Calde said, “Salakniban is a joint effort of all organizations to unite as one community in UP Baguio, outside of Pasiklaban and other campus events.”

Salakniban 2010 which kicked off at 9:30 a.m. featured activities such as “Open Stage” where students were called on to exhibit some artistic flair, community snack and games, and the culminating activity, the recognition rites.

The organizations, however, are yet to receive their certificates of recognition for Student Affairs Director Teofino Macabiog, who is out of town, hasn’t been able to sign them yet.
